Ectropis obliqua nuclear polyhedrosis virus (EoNPV) is an important pathogenic microorganism of tea geometrid. After spraying onto crops and being eaten by pests, the virus particles replicate and multiply in the pest body, quickly spreading to all parts of the pest. The virus drastically consumes the tissues of the worms, causing pests to stop eating or moving during the "illness" period, creating a sub-lethal effect that eventually kills them. The virus can also infect newly hatched larvae when they consume contaminated egg shells. Additionally, virus particles continue to spread to other pests through body fluids and feces of dead insects, providing long-term field pest control.
